the lgbtqia cosplay

we are more concerned about the performance of queerness than the embodiment of what it means to be queer.



pride

balls

the bells and whistles

the kiki and the slay


and yet the only way we are allowed to be visible is if we are willing to cosplay the binary via extremes


and yes, for us personally and historically some aspects of being queer have always been about an exaggeration and taking those things that cishetero humans cling to and spinning them on their head.


but as I look to the marketing machine that is now the performative stand in for what it means to be gay.


we have to look to the ways in which our expression is being skewed to support the binary.


those who are centered are those who meet the needs of the binary. those who pass.


we say ⚧️ is about being on the other side of, about leaving the path to explore and dream up elsewhere, and yet those leading the supposed way are those who cause the least discomfort to empire.


we refuse to speak to socialized identity. the impact it has on brains before choosing to transition. the undergoing of rebirth is no easy task, it is not a journey for the light of heart.


but as I look to these last 5 years, my non binary identity has often been forced right back into the realm of hyper femininity.


4 inch nails in order to keep up with trend and by the time I looked at my body without enhancement or augment, it was deteriorating.


Nothing about who I was, connected to my deeply queer ideology.


And for what?


to keep up with an aesthetic when I still found myself back on the auction block a mammy up for highest bidder, still.


I have been on a slow journey of embodying my queerness down to the ground.  the cosplay turned ritual healing l, cause I ain’t gotta shuck and jive me.


I just gotta be, me.
